I was 17 when I figured out what I was suppose to study Design. (My dad sent me to a school psychologist in a desperate last attempt to stop me from studying acting. The answer of the psychologist was that I was made for Graphic Design.)
I didn’t have art as subject at school, my main subjects were Maths, Biology, Science and Geography. We lived in Aggeneys – a small town between Springbok and Poffader in the Namaqualand, on the Namibian border. And no school in the whole of Namaqualand had Art as a school subject.
I had about 2 years to prepare myself to get into art school. To make a long story short, I got accepted into Potchefstroom University, studying Marketing and majoring in Graphic Design. (By God’s Grace and a sister who kept telling me I could do it.)
Thereafter I started working in Johannesburg.. Best place to get into the industry. I had the privilege to work with incredible designers, testing their design voices until I found my own.. I fell in love with Design… more and more every year.
